"Cool" Exercise Tips

Year ‘round, indoors or out, it’s important to follow certain healthy habits before, during and after exercise to prevent injury and get the most out of your workout. But, if you prefer outdoor exercise to putting in minutes on the treadmill, you’ll need to take additional precautions to protect against challenges posed by winter’s cool weather conditions.

If you’re an indoor athlete, you’ll find many of these tips useful, too, even if your only outdoor exercise is a quick dash from the car to the gym. And, while most people who follow these tips will be completely fine exercising outdoors in winter, if you have cold- or exercise-induced asthma, Raynaud’s syndrome or some heart conditions, please check with your doctor first.

Health Watch:
Combating the Common Cold, Naturally

The common cold, also known as upper respiratory infections, or affectionately by some as, the crud, is a viral infection easily spread through contact with an infected person. Those who are afflicted with it have mucus that contains the virus. When they cough or sneeze, they spray vaporized mucus into the air. Or, they may cough or sneeze into their hands and touch a handrail, the top of a desk or other surfaces that are frequently shared by others. These are all sources of contamination for healthy people.

When you pick up the virus and it reaches your mucus membranes, it begins to multiply, with an incubation time of approximately one to five days before you begin to see symptoms. Once present, the virus stimulates immune cells in your body to get rid of the foreign invader. This creates an inflammatory response that helps to eliminate the virus, but also is the cause of a lot of the uncomfortable symptoms we experience.

Supplement Spotlight:
Alpha-Lipoic Acid for Hepatitis C, Cancer, Diabetes, Stroke and more…

Alpha-lipoic acid is essential for overall health, and research shows promising results especially for fighting hepatitis C, cancer, diabetes, stroke and more. But first some definitions…

Alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant made by the body and found in every cell, where it helps turn glucose into energy.

Antioxidants attack free radicals, which are the waste products created when the body turns food into energy.

Free radicals cause harmful chemical reactions that can damage cells in the body, which in turn damage organs and tissues, making it harder for the body to fight infections.

Debunking Detox: Does it make sense for you?

Have you ever done a detox or known someone who has? The idea has been around for thousands of years, used primarily by certain religious and cultural groups, but its practice in America has only recently hit the mainstream.

What is it? In simple terms, detox, short for detoxification, is a process that enhances the body’s natural elimination system. It induces release of accumulated toxins from your tissues and facilitates their removal from your body.

Is it for you? How do you sort through all the detox products on the shelf? Are there dangers?
